The St. Tammany Parish Sheriff’s Office says a missing Covington woman has been found.

STPSO deputies began searching the Tchefuncte River Friday night around 9 p.m. for Laura Thomas who was reported missing.

According to Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries (LDWF) enforcement agents, the search party responded to the scene immediately and had to halt the search due to poor weather conditions around 2 a.m. on April 10.

Authorities said they resumed the search at first light on April 10. A good Samaritan found the missing personal watercraft in the Tchefuncte River around 10:30 a.m. on April 10, officials said.

STPSO deputies then found the missing 26-year-old female around 11 a.m. with only her head above water while wearing a life jacket.

She was transported to the boat launch where emergency medical services brought her to the Lakeview Regional Medical Center and is listed in critical condition.

Members of the STPSO Operations Division, Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries and the U.S. Coast Guard assisted in the search along the Northern Tchefuncte River near Covington for Thomas.

Thomas was last seen in the area north of the Three Rivers Boat Launch, on a black and gold personal watercraft.

Sheriff Randy Smith would like to ask for continued prayers for Laura and her family and would like to thank those members of the general public and witnesses who assisted in providing information.
