Fire reported at J.C. Ellis Elementary School in Metairie

A fire was reported Tuesday afternoon at an elementary school in Metairie.

The Jefferson Parish East Bank Fire Department responded to the two-alarm fire at J.C. Ellis Elementary School.

According to fire officials, an automatic alarm was called in around 2:30 p.m.

Three classrooms were on fire, but fire officials said no one was in the building.

According to fire officials, the building that caught fire housed three lower elementary classrooms.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.

Classes were cancelled Wednesday because of the fire.
