Officials: 2 presumed dead in Lafourche Parish helicopter crash

The Lafourche Parish Sheriff’s Office is on the scene of a report of a helicopter crash.

The crash was reported near the west side of the South Lafourche Levee System, according to Sheriff Craig Webre.

Webre said the crash was reported by a citizen.

According to Capt. Brennan Matherne, police located the crash site about 12 miles from the staging area where pieces of metal were found sticking out of the mud.

According to officials, the helicopter appears to have taken a nosedive, and the majority of the helicopter was reportedly found submerged in the marsh.

Officials say the pilot and passenger on the helicopter are both presumed dead.

The names of the victims have not yet been released as officials work to notify next of kin.

The National Transportation Safety Board will reportedly take the lead on the investigation.
