Orleans Parish District Attorney re-examining case of woman found dead in Lakeview

The death of a woman found dead near her Lakeview home in 2019 is going to be re-examined by the Orleans Parish District Attorney, according to the DA’s office.

The family of Jessica Easterly Durning suspects foul play in her death. Relatives searching for after she was reported missing found her body Aug. 22, 2019, at the intersection of Kennilworth Street and Orleans Avenue, blocks from her home on General Haig Street.

The family set up an online petition asking District Attorney Jason Williams to investigate the death of the 43-year-old.

As of 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, the petition gained more than 27,000 signatures.

Williams issued the following statement regarding the case:

“District Attorney Williams is absolutely willing to meet with the family of Jessica Easterly Durning to discuss this horrible matter. He is also committed to reexamining this matter with fresh eyes and revisiting all facts & evidence involved. With this case and any other in New Orleans, DA Williams is dedicated to seeking justice.”

The Orleans Parish Coroner’s Office has said the manner of her death was undetermined.

The family told WDSU in 2019 they believed her body was “dumped,” and whoever placed it near the Interstate 610 overpass near her home may know more about how she died.
